Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited organizes Urja Mela

25 Feb 2022 , 10:03 AM

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited, a leading utility supplying electricity to a populace of 7 million in North Delhi, in its bid to sensitize the school children on the importance of environment conservation, climate change, air pollution and promotion of renewable energy, organized its annual flagship event - Urja Mela. The broader aim of Urja Mela is to raise environmental awareness and inculcate a sense of responsibility amongst the youngsters at large.

The Urja Mela witnessed participation from more than 50 Delhi schools this year— including Delhi Government and Private Schools. The event was conducted under strict Covid-19 safety guidelines as given out by the Government of India at company’s Learning Centre in Rohini. Prof. (Dr.) Rihan Khan Suri, Pro Vice Chancellor of Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University, Govt. of Delhi was the guest of honour at the event.

This year over 100 prizes were given away. The students shared information about benefits of Energy Conservation, Safety, Air Pollution Climate Change and Ethics creatively through posters and insightful science models, slogans, drawings etc. A special category was also launched for budding entrepreneurs- ‘Show your Entrepreneurship Skills’ where students presented their Innovative Ideas. Entrepreneurship has been added as an important element because innovation as a result of entrepreneurship is necessary to reach these goals.

The participating schools are a part of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited’s Club Enerji program that sensitizes school children for bringing societal and behavioural change in energy consumption and conservation of natural resources. The club educates and creates awareness among youth about the importance of environment and energy conservation through conservation tips, workshops and regular sessions on related topics in a unique manner, through company’s Brand Mascot- ‘Roshni’.

Addressing the students and teachers during the event, Mr. Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited said, “Young minds are torch-bearers of a sustainable future, instilling an understanding at an impressionable age can help them become responsible citizens. Urja Mela, is a celebration of their contribution towards innovation in energy conservation. With the increasing pressure on natural resources, now more than ever, it is important to sensitise young minds to protect nature, preserve energy and work towards reducing the impact of climate change.”

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited launched Club Enerji program in 2004 with a few schools and at present, 370 Delhi Government and Private Schools are its members. Through this initiative, the company has sensitized more than 10 lakh students so far.
