ABB India's HVAC solution installed at JW Marriott sets new benchmark of saving 35% energy annually

27 Jan 2022 , 05:10 PM

ABB India Ltd. announced that by installing in its hotel JW Marriott Pune, an iconic landmark in the city of Pune, ABB’s Cooling Tower Direct Drive solution, has set new benchmarks in energy efficiency, saving about 35 percent energy annually. Energy saved in a day with ABB's direct-drive solution can charge an electric car which can give an output of 1500 km approximately. It further added that Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) consume an average of about 50 percent of the energy in buildings, so there’s always scope of saving energy in these areas.

A cooling tower can be used to provide comfort cooling for large commercial buildings like airports, schools, hospitals, and hotels, and hence is a key component of many refrigeration systems. Energy consumption takes place in driving the fan, or fans so that proper air movement through a cooling tower could be achieved. ABB’s direct-drive solution extends the benefits of variable speed control and minimizes the costs and maintenance required for traditional gearboxes or belted solutions. The fan is linked directly to the motor and is controlled by a unique AC drive so that it could provide adequate speed and cooling tower performance that runs noiselessly with reduced energy consumption. The solution also makes start-up simple and straightforward by providing a QuickStart Assistant.

“When we strive to reduce energy consumption, every possible way to conserve energy must be taken into consideration, and the most energy-efficient technologies and practices must be selected & implemented. Buildings have a great potential in shaping our sustainable future and offer sizeable scope in energy optimization. Investment in energy-efficient technologies can drive both economic and environmental benefits,” said Sanjeev Arora, President, Motion business, ABB India.

ABB is a leading global technology player that works on the transformation of society and industry to achieve a more productive, sustainable future. By connecting software to its electrification, robotics, automation, and motion portfolio, ABB challenges the boundaries of technology to drive performance to new levels. With a history of excellence stretching back more than 130 years, ABB’s success is due to the unmatched contribution of about 105,000 talented employees in over 100 countries.

ABB India Ltd ended at Rs2,228.55 down by Rs171.4 or 7.14% from its previous closing of Rs2,399.95 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs2,435 and touched an intraday high and low of Rs2,435 and Rs2,138.45 respectively.
