Adani, GMR purchase franchises in Legends League Cricket

26 Aug 2022 , 10:01 AM

Before the second season of the Raman Raheja-promoted Legends League Cricket (LLC), the Adani Group and the GMR Group have purchased franchises in the league.

While LLC had a three-team league in its first season and didn't sell any franchises, the next season will have a four-team franchise concept. The second season, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence, will begin on September 16 in India.

GMR Group has now made its third investment in a franchise cricket team with this investment, while Adani Group has now made its second. While GMR Sports is a co-owner of the Delhi Capitals club in the IPL, the Adani and GMR Sports organizations both recently bought teams in the UAE T20 competition.

Both businesses also have squads competing in the Pro Kabaddi League and the ongoing Ultimate Kho Kho tournament.

Former cricketers play competitive cricket in the league. Mohammad Kaif, Irfan Pathan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Akhtar, Sanath Jayasuriya, Darren Sammy, Herschelle Gibbs, Brett Lee, Kevin Pietersen, and Jonty Rhodes were among the 59 players on LLC's roster in the inaugural season.

The second season of LLC will begin at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and travel through Lucknow, New Delhi, Cuttack, and Jodhpur before ending in Dehradun for the playoffs and finals.

All franchises will receive the greatest revenue during the league's early years thanks to the way the revenue sharing scheme is set up in the league. Additionally, unlike previous T20 leagues, the franchise is not responsible for the expense of match hosting.
