The Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway's accident-prone segment will undergo a road safety audit to identify and address any shortcomings, according to the Geneva-based International Road Federation (IRF), which was announced on Wednesday.
This follows the recent accident that killed former Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry on the most accident-prone part of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai route, according to IRF.
After Mistry lost his life on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway, the International Road Federation (IRF) agreed to carry out a road safety audit on the high-accident section to assess and identify road defects, according to IRF President Emeritus KK Kapila, reported ET.
In the Palghar region of Maharashtra, Mistry was killed in an automobile accident on Sunday after colliding with a divider.
Data from the National Crime Records Bureau show that over 1.55 lakh people died in road crashes in India in 2021, the greatest death toll for any calendar year to date (426 people per day on average, or 18 every hour).
