Ather Energy introduces a new Ather 450x model with a 105 km range

20 Jul 2022 , 09:56 AM

The third-generation version of Ather Energy's flagship scooter, the Ather 450x, was unveiled on Tuesday. It features a larger battery, new tyres, updated software, and other tweaks like improved mirrors and a larger boot.

The cost of the new EV in Bengaluru would be Rs155,657 ex-showroom. Starting on July 20, it will be offered at all Ather experience centres for Rs5,000 more than the 450x's prior price.

According to co-founder Tarun Mehta telling ET, the company's flagship model accounted for around 80% of sales.

The additional battery will improve the scooter's certified range from 85 kilometres (km) in the present edition to 146 kilometres (km) with a real-life range of 105 kilometres.

After the most recent software update, the new battery size of 3.7 kWh, which is 25% larger than the previous version but smaller than rival Ola Electric's flagship S1 Pro's 3.9 kWh battery size, giving it a range of up to 200 kilometres.

Range, or how far an EV can go on a single charge, is a crucial consideration when choosing an EV. The size of the battery pack, which is made up of lithium-ion cells, determines the range.

As part of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing (of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) (FAME) scheme, which has a corpus of Rs10,000 crore, the government currently offers Rs15,000 per kWh.

Ather will receive a subsidy of Rs55,500 each vehicle from the new battery (3.7 times Rs15,000), while rival Ola Electric will receive a subsidy of Rs 58,000 per vehicle.

The FAME-II subsidy is good till the end of March 2024.

The business said that the 450x has bigger rear tyres that are fundamentally engineered to provide better traction while leaning on corners and a shorter braking distance in order to improve riding performance.

Mehta claimed that the new vehicle will also have additional RAM (random access memory), which will improve the smoothness and functionality of its interactive front screen.

Mehta stated that Ather will continue to offer the Ather 450 plus and Ather 450x versions, with the 450 plus remaining the more cost-effective
option and retaining a smaller battery.
