BSE Consumer Durables index rises led by ITC, HUL

The Consumer Durables index was up 139 points or 1.2%, around 11,765 levels during afternoon trade today.

The BSE Consumer Durables sectoral index was the top gainer after BSE IT in today's trade.

The Consumer Durables index was up 139 points or 1.2%, around 11,765 levels during afternoon trade today. ITC, HUL, Nestle, and Marico contributed the most to the index's gains.

Majority of the stocks were trading in the green, wherein Ruchi Soya was up 10%, Godfrey Phillips up 4%, Jyothy Lab up 3%, eventually pushing the index to higher levels.

Bucking the trend, some heavyweight stocks such as Colgate and Future Consumer were trading in the red.

Meanwhile, the Sensex rose 157 points at 35,807, while the Nifty ended higher by 50 points at 10,780. The market breadth was narrow as 1,313 shares advanced, while 1,233 shares declined, and 181 shares remained unchanged.

IT stocks were trading higher led by Infosys, KPIT Tech, Tata Elxsi, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Wipro and Oracle Financial Services.

The auto index was however down dragged by Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, Motherson Sumi, TVS Motor and Tata Motors DVR.

The top gainers from BSE include Reliance Industries, Zee Entertainment, Infosys, GAIL India, and Bharti Infratel, while the top losers include BPCL, Bharti Airtel, IOC, Bajaj Auto and Dr Reddy's Labs.
