Bulls hold a tight grip; Nifty settles above 10,000-mark

The Nifty Realty index ended 3% up, ending higher for the seventh straight day, with its best winning streak since October 2019.

The bulls continued to maintain their firm grip on the domestic markets as the benchmark indices registered gains for sixth consecutive session and maintained its best winning streak in seven months. The S&P BSE Sensex ended with gains of 0.84% or 284 points at 34,109 and the NSE Nifty50 index managed to hold on to the 10,000 mark, up over 82 points. Market breadth remained in favour of the advances with 1,241 stocks on the NSE ending with gains while 586 ended with losses.

Among sectoral indices, the Nifty Bank closed 2% higher at 20,940.70 and PSU Bank Index emerged as the top sectoral gainer, settled higher 5.12%. On the other hand, IT and Nifty Metal index ended with marginal losses. 

The Nifty Realty index ended 3% up, ending higher for the seventh straight day, with its best winning streak since October 2019.

M&M, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance and Nestle were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers included NTPC, Bharti Infratel, Wipro, Zee Entertainment and IndusInd Bank.
