Jubilant Foodworks brings iconic US chicken brand Popeyes to India, inaugurates first restaurant in Bengaluru today

Jubilant FoodWorks

On Wednesday, Jubilant Foodworks Ltd. announced the launch of the iconic US Fried Chicken brand Popeyes in India, with the grand opening of its first restaurant in Bengaluru today. Popeyes is well-known for its spicy New Orleans style fried chicken & chicken sandwich, looking to cater to Indians with the unique and tempting flavours of its Louisiana Style chicken.

Popeyes will start its flagship store in Koramangala, India today, followed by two other stores in New BEL and Kammanahalli soon thereafter. The brand will operate its own App (android and IOS) and mobile website to facilitate a smooth and seamless delivery experience. JFL has built its own in-house delivery fleet with 100% use of e-bikes.

“We are excited to introduce the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen brand to chicken-loving Indian consumers. We are confident that Popeyes will not only delight guests but also strategically complement our portfolio and fortify JFL’s leadership in the QSR domain,” said Shyam S. Bhartia, Chairman and Hari S. Bhartia, Co-Chairman, Jubilant Foodworks Limited.

Popeyes was founded in 1972 in Louisiana and has been America’s most popular and rapidly growing chicken brand now. Its traditional and unique technique of hand breading, battering, and marinating its fresh chicken for 12 hours in bold Cajun seasonings made the brand a huge success. Cajun seasoning is an intricate blend of garlic, onion, cayenne pepper, celery, and white pepper, that combines to offer an exceptional and flavourful culinary experience.

The Popeyes India menu will feature the Cajun flavoured, world-famous Chicken Sandwich, which took the internet by storm in August 2019 in the United States. Its signature Chicken in Classic and Spicy flavours will complement the menu appropriately. It shall also serve Rice bowls and Wraps as part of wholesome meal options to ensure a rich and scrumptious experience for all its customers. The Indian menu would be MSG-free and the chicken will be antibiotic-free.

Jubilant Foodworks is currently trading at Rs3,734.35 down by Rs53.75 or 1.42% from its previous closing of Rs3,788.10. The scrip opened at Rs3,788 and has touched a intraday high and low of Rs3,790 and Rs3,710.05 respectively.
