Markets end weekly expiry on a positive note; Nifty reclaims 11,000 mark

The Nifty Metal index closed ~2% higher, while the Nifty Pharma index ended ~1.5% lower, recovering from its 4% fall towards the end of the session.

Indian equity markets traded with a positive bias throughout the day backed by short covering.

Both Nifty & Bank Nifty indices ended the weekly option expiry on a positive note, gaining ~1% each.

Bajaj Finserve, ZEEL, & Tata Steel were among the top Nifty gainers, closing ~4% higher. The Nifty Metal index closed ~2% higher, while the Nifty Pharma index closed ~1.5% lower, recovering from its 4% fall towards the end of the session.

The market breadth ended in favor of advances with the advance/decline ratio closing at 1:1x.
               
On the options front (August 22, 2019 expiry), across-the-board short selling was seen in Nifty out-of-the-money put option strikes making 10,900 level as an immediate floor level for the index in the weekly series.

India Vix closed at 16.4, down 8%.
