Maruti Suzuki, Gulshan Polyols, 111 others scrips hit all time high

The broader market out-performed the benchmark indices. The CNX Nifty Junior gained 0.8 percent at 20,989. The Midcap index advanced 0.8 percent to 13,832, and the Smallcap index soared 1.5 percent to 5,810.

The BSE benchmark index, the Sensex, opened on a tentative note at 28,089 - down 26 points from the previous close. The BSE index touched a low of 28,071, and soon rebounded back into the positive zone. The BSE index thereafter traded with a positive bias for the remainder for the day.

The Sensex touched an intra-day high at 28,263, and finally ended 73 points higher at 28,187. In the process, the BSE index has now gained 728 points in the last four trading sessions.

The NSE Nifty hovered around the 8,550-odd level for a major part of the trading session. The NSE index touched a high and low of 8,563 and 8,508, respectively, before settling with a notional gain of 10 points at 8,543.

The India VIX (Volatility) index rose by 5.6 percent to 15.39.
