Modi-swearing in… Ruchira Kamboj to manage protocol affairs

South Block has roped in its former chief of protocol Ruchira Kamboj to manage protocol affairs in the Capital, says a report in the Indian Express.

She had handled several multilateral meetings in Delhi BRICS, Asia-Europe meeting and IOR-ARC to name a few in the past three years. Kamboj will assist the incumbent Pradeep Rawat, the report added.


Who is Ruchira Kamboj?

Ruchira Kamboj was formerly the Chief of Protocol to the Government of India, and was the first woman in the Indian Foreign Service to hold this position.

Kamboj joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1987 being the topper of her batch for that year. She has served as the Deputy Headin the office of the Commonwealth Secretary-General, London. Prior to that, she served as the Minister & Head, High Commission of India, Cape Town, South Africa.

She has served as a Counsellor in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York City. She has also served at the High Commission of India Mauritius and at the Indian Embassy in Paris. She has held the positions of Director/Deputy Secretary (Foreign Service Personnel) and Under Secretary (Europe West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

On September 25, 2013 Ruchira Kamboj was appointed as the Ambassador & Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO, Paris.
