Nifty FMCG index advances over 210 pts amid markets rally; Varun Beverages, Nestle India led the pack

Godrej Consumer, Dabur, Britannia and ITC also gained over 1% to inspire outperformance from the sector.

Nifty FMCG stocks traded higher to join markets bulls on Wednesday. Varun Beverages led the gains while heavyweights Nestle India, Godrej Consumer, Dabur, Britannia and ITC also gained over 1% to inspire outperformance from the sector.

Tata Consumer which drove sectorial gains on Tuesday suffered reversal of fortunes. It slipped 1.5% to drag the sector.

At around 1.15 pm, Nifty FMCG was trading at 34,830.60 up 210.75 points or 0.61%, hitting a day’s high of 35,050.45 during intraday trade on Wednesday.

Varun Beverages surged 2.78% at Rs1,009.95 per piece. Nestlke India rose 1.9% at Rs17,404.05 per piece to lift the sectorial performance. UBL was up 1.63% while Godrej Consumer advanced 1.55%. Marico also was 1.34% on the upside while Brittania gainjed 1.07% to stay bullish. ITC also gained nearly 1%.

Jubilant FoodWorks, Procter & Gamble Hygience, Emami and United Spirits also traded marginally higher.
Hindustan Unilever traded flat. 

Tata Consumer shed 1.66% at Rs663.35 per piece while Colgate Palmolive was also down 0.60%.
