By lowering the discount it provides, the Indian Railways has increased the fee it imposes for transporting empty containers and flat carriages. It has lowered discount on haulage of empty containers and flat carriages by 10 percentage points.
This is a decrease from a 15% discount on the haulage fee for moving empty flat waggons and containers (TEU). A common unit of measurement for containers is the TEU.
These updated fees will be in effect from August 1 to October 31, 2022.
The national transporter cut the discount it provides for the carriage of empty containers and empty flat waggons from 25% to 15% on the then-current haulage rate in April of this year.
These discounts are being gradually lowered because the previous fiscal year saw record loading and container loading is increasing as anticipated.
In comparison to the 1233.24 million tonnes (MT) loading in 2020—21, the Indian Railways reported 1418 million tonnes (MT) of freight loading in 2021—22. This was the biggest freight loading the railroads had ever recorded for a fiscal year.
