Rs 25 lakh crore worth of benefits distributed through PM Jan Dhan Yojana bank accounts, says Minister

17 Oct 2022 , 03:44 PM

Union Minister of Tourism G Kishan Reddy emphasized the significant accomplishment of the government in terms of digitization and eradicating corruption in public schemes by stating that approximately Rs25 lakh crore has so far been distributed to numerous beneficiaries through Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana bank accounts.

Reddy stated that half of the 50 crore Jan Dhan accounts belong to women after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and dedicated 75 digital banking units to the nation. He was speaking in Hyderabad's Jangaon.

"You are all aware that there was debate as to whether the Jan Dhan accounts were necessary for our nation when they were first introduced. We have given needy people Rs25 lakh crore in social initiatives today via Jan Dhan accounts. It's an accomplishment, "added he.

Reddy added that the needy had deposited Rs1.75 lakh crore in Jan Dhan bank accounts as of today.

He added that there were numerous incidents in various States when fraudsters using false identities stole the welfare programmes, pensions, and subsidies of the poor.

Following the commencement of direct benefit transfer (DBT), as many as four crore phoney ration cards and the equivalent number of false LPG cylinder accounts were revoked, according to Reddy.

The Union Minister stated, "Today we can proudly say if the Centre sends Rs100 to a poor man, even as single paise is not diverted." The Union Minister claimed that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had earlier stated only Rs15 is reaching people as opposed to the Centre’s disbursement of Rs100 as the middlemen were pocketing Rs85.

Kishan Reddy said he is asking the Telangana government for the bank account information of those kids so that Rs300 crore toward scholarships can be transferred. He claimed that the Centre is prepared to deposit scholarships to SC and ST students straight into their bank accounts.

Reddy, who is also the Minister for Development of the North-Eastern Region (DoNER), stated that prior to the implementation of the digitalization system, all work in the northeast was done on paper. Now, however, payments are given and work is tracked through the system.
