Sensex, Nifty trade flat; Aurobindo Pharma gains 3%

Among sectoral front, auto and pharma index gained the most amongst its peers while banks and metal indexes traded marginally lower.

Benchmark indices open on a flat note on Wednesday ahead of US Federal Reserve's view on the economy. The Sensex opened 117 points higher to 39,161 while the Nifty50 index opened at 11,538, up 17 points. The market breadth is in favour of the gainers with 1,065 stocks have opened with gains and 370 are declining on the NSE.

Broader indices also traded flat, with the midcap index has gained 0.3% and the smallcap index opened 0.5% higher.

Among sectoral front, auto and pharma index gained the most amongst its peers while banks and metal indexes traded marginally lower.

Bharti Airtel, Titan, Cipla and M&M were the Nifty50 top gainers, while HCL Tech and Adani Ports among losers.

Shares of Aurobindo Pharma gained 3% after the company announced its collaboration with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to develop vaccines to protect against Covid-19.
