Sensex, Nifty trade flat; Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra stocks gain

Equity benchmark indices off days as selling pressure witnessed in FMCG, financial and banking stocks. Shares of HUL dipped 1.6%, Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Bank, Bajaj Auto and Bharti Airtel stocks slipped in the Sensex pack. Gainers included Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, M&M and HCL Tech were up in the range of 3-1.5%.

The 30-share BSE index was trading 40 points higher at 39,028 while the Nifty rose 38 points to 11,553.

The rupee opened at 73.46 against the US Dollar as compared to Thursday's close of 73.65/$.

Meanwhile, exchange data showed that foreign institutional investors sold equities worth Rs249.82cr on a net basis on Thursday.

Oil prices drifted lower on Friday as producers prepared to resume operations in the Gulf of Mexico and data showed Saudi Arabian exports rose from record lows. Brent crude was down 6 cents at $43.24 a barrel and US oil futures dropped 6 cents to $40.91 a barrel.
