The Sensex was up 265 points at 35,227 and the Nifty rose 83 points to 10,396. The market breadth is in favour of the gainers with 1,113 stocks with gains while 325 are in red on the NSE.
Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors and Bajaj Finance among top gainers, while HDFC Bank and TCS were in the red zone.
Among sectoral front, the Auto index has opened 1.1% higher led by Motherson Sumi, Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland. Also, PSU Bank and Metal index have opened with gains while IT and Pharma are trading lower.
Vodafone Idea, ONGC, and Sail are scheduled to announce their March quarter earnings today.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation today at 4 pm. This would be his sixth address to the nation since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Also, the government has banned 59 Chinese mobile applications like TikTok, SHARE iT, UC Browser and WeChat, citing national security amid border stand-off with the neighboring country.
