Private equity and venture capital (PE-VC) deal value increased 11% to $26.5 billion in the first half of 2022 from $23.9 billion in the same time the previous year, according to data from Venture Intelligence, amid concerns about a financing winter.
Even though the number of transactions signed increased by 27% to 667, the average check size has shrunk by 12.5% to $39.5 million. The largest startup funding rounds this year to date have been raised by Dailyhunt ($805 million), Byju's ($665 million), and ShareChat ($255 million) as part of a $520 million round that began in December of last year.
There have also been a few significant private equity deals in the six months leading up to June (H1). Bodhi Tree, a platform for alternative investments funded by the Qatar Investment Authority, has led fundraising rounds worth $1.78 billion for Viacom18 and $600 million for Allen, a provider of educational services. Another significant PE deal completed in H1 was the telecom giant Airtel raising $700 million from Google.
