• Commonwealth games or Corruption games?
    by R. Venkataraman August 04, 2010 09:28 IST

What a sorry state of affairs for an event touted to be the biggest sporting event in India since the 1982 Asian games. Besides the infrastructure woes, the recent report of the CVC has put the entire organizing committee of the Commonwealth Games (CWG OC) in bad light.

Similar celebrities are created in financial services too, especially among fund managers and suddenly they vanish from limelight without much of a trace, especially when markets collapse like the way they did in 2008 and 2001.

  • Kicking around
    by R. Venkataraman June 29, 2010 16:55 IST

The football World Cup fever has just caught up with me. For the first time, over this weekend, I managed to see three matches fully; sacrifices made by parents when children are cartoon network addicts is perhaps a common story in most homes.

  • Sachin, kaun hai yeh Sachin?
    by R. Venkataraman November 13, 2013 12:51 IST

A gentleman of the game, he has given us hours and hours of joy when he is on the field and maintained his poise on and off the field with his politeness, dignity and decency.

    by R. Venkataraman January 30, 2013 18:35 IST

People talk about Dhoni because he is a cricketer who went on to play for country and win world cups. There are 4000 IITians from DAV and many more if you include India but there is only one Mahi.

  • Cricket in a fix; questions abound!
    by R. Venkataraman May 22, 2013 10:56 IST

My wife and I had a very interesting discussion with my 8-year old son. His question was what went wrong with the players; what is cheating and why do people do such things? It was not really easy explaining to him that greed makes people veer off the straight path.

  • Sachin, Shoaib & Sunny
    by R. Venkataraman October 08, 2011 13:51 IST

Shoaib and Sachin’s confrontations are a part of cricketing folklore especially Shoaib’s devastating spell at Eden Gardens when with two consecutive deliveries he clean bowled the wall Rahul Dravid and unarguably the best batsman of this generation Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin returned the compliment in the World Cup in South Africa. Who can forget the slice over third man which went for a six? I strongly feel that Sunny Gavaskar and not Sachin is the best batsmen that India has ever produced.

    by R. Venkataraman March 29, 2011 15:37 IST

This blog is not about cricket but about forecasting. As Jim Morrison of Doors fame rightly said – Astrology is the most philosophical of all science.

  • Indian Paradigm League
by Amar Ambani June 07, 2011 12:30 IST

Certain things in life are best described only through clichés. Love it, hate it, laud it, loathe, curse it or cheer it - you just can’t ignore IPL, such has been the unmistakable appeal of the new paradigm in cricket-centric entertainment.
