Equity benchmark indices erased volatility session and gained in the last trading hours on Thursday.
The Sensex gained 142 points at 37,256 levels, while the Nifty climbed 50 points to trade at 11,207 points, struggling to hold its key level of 11,200.
On the S&P BSE SENSEX 50, Infosys, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, TCS, and Reliance were the biggest contributors to the rally.
Among stocks, Zee Entertainment, UltraTech Cement, Tata Motors, IOC, and BPCL were the biggest gainers on the NSE. On the flip side, Yes Bank, Bharti Airtel, Cipla, Indiabulls Housing Finance, and Coal India lost the most.
All sectoral indices were trading in the green except Nifty FMCG, Pharma, and PSU Bank. Notably, the Nifty Media index gained 2% followed by Nifty IT and Realty indices, which rose 1% each.
Incidentally, volatility measurement index, India VIX, fell 0.1% at 28.06.
Surprisingly, market breadth was negative on the NSE with 975 shares declining, 742 shares advancing, and 379 shares remaining unchanged.
