What is the upper circuit limit and lower circuit limit for the stock of SBI?
In order to prevent excessive volatility and price manipulation, stock exchanges have an upper and lower circuit limit for each stock that is listed. The upper circuit limit is the maximum percentage price increase in a stock allowed in a day. If the price of the stock increases by upper circuit limit on a given day, then trading on the stock is halted for some time. Usually, it is halted for the remainder of the day.
So if the upper circuit limit on a stock is 10%, and the price of the stock is Rs 100 at the start of the day, then upper circuit limit is touched if the stock price increases to Rs 110. Trading in the stock will be stopped as soon as the price touches Rs 110. Trading in the stock will be resumed after some time, such as after few minutes, or on the next day.
Lower circuit limit is the highest percentage drop that is allowed in a stock on a day. As soon as the stock price drops by this percentage, lower circuit limit is touched. Trading in the stock is then halted for some time.
