Power Grid Corporation of India Greenlights Major Infrastructure Projects

The board of directors and Committee of Directors of Power Grid Corporation of India convened on February 18, 2024, and approved significant investment proposals aimed at enhancing the country's power transmission infrastructure.

  1. Unified Load Dispatch and Communication (ULDC) Phase-III (SCADA/EMS Upgradation Project – Northern Region SLDCs):
    • Investment Approval: The board accorded investment approval for the implementation of ULDC Phase-III at an estimated cost of Rs 514.66 crore.
    • Objective: The project aims to upgrade the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Energy Management System (EMS) infrastructure in the Northern Region State Load Dispatch Centers (SLDCs).
    • Commissioning Schedule: The project is slated for completion by November 15, 2025, contributing to improved grid management and reliability.
  2. Augmentation of 765/400 kV, 1500 MVA Transformer at Bhiwani S/s:
    • Investment Approval: The Committee of Directors approved the augmentation of a 765/400 kV, 1500 MVA transformer (4th) at Bhiwani Substation.
    • Purpose: The augmentation is aimed at strengthening the transmission infrastructure for the evacuation of power from Renewable Energy (RE) parks in Leh, specifically for the 5 GW Leh-Kaithal Transmission corridor.
    • Estimated Cost: The project is estimated to cost Rs 141.09 crore.
    • Commissioning Timeline: Scheduled to be commissioned within 18 months from the date of issuance of the Ministry of Power (MoP) Office Memorandum (OM), i.e., by May 5, 2025.

The shares of Power Grid are trading at ₹277, 0.89% higher than previous close on NSE.
