Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Tata Motors achieved record numbers of patent approvals in the last financial year. M&M received 674 approvals, its highest annual performance, with the majority from the Indian Patent office.
Rajesh Jejurikar, M&M’s ED & CEO (Auto & Farm Sectors), highlighted the company’s focus on R&D investments to stay technologically advanced.
M&M has been granted a total of 1,185 patents across multiple geographies and has 193 applications pending approval as of March 31, 2024. The company has filed 2,212 patent applications to date, covering functions like powertrain (ICE & EV), vehicle mechanical systems, electronics, and manufacturing processes.
Tata Motors also witnessed its highest-ever grant of 333 patents in the last fiscal, bringing its total to over 850. In FY24, Tata Motors filed 222 patents and 117 design applications, the highest in its history.
The patents address automotive megatrends such as connectivity, electrification, sustainability, and safety (CESS), covering vehicle systems like powertrain, suspension, brakes, and emission control.
