Reliance Power has synchronised the second of the two 300MW units of its Butibori Thermal Power Project near Nagpur in Maharashtra. The Unit has been synchronized on 2nd Jan '13 in the early hours and simultaneously coal firing of the unit has been achieved.
Power generated from the plant will be distributed to industrial and distribution utilities and will help reduce the demand-supply gap in Maharashtra.The first 300MW unit achieved full load in earlier this year in August.
With the comissioning of the second unit, the full 600MW capacity will be available from the Butipori plant.
The plant is among the most compact-sized thermal plants in the country with its 600 MW capacity requiring not more than 275 acres of plant land. The Butibori power plart is environment friendly with zero effluent discharge. Also, the entire ash generated by the plant will be utilised by Reliance group's own cement plant.
J.P. Chalasani, the Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Power said: "With this our ope ating capacity goes up to 1,840 MW. We are continuing to create benchmarks in building and operating large-scale power projects. Reliance Power's flagship project in Sasan is also progressing at a rapid pace and we expect to commission the first 660 MW unit of the Ultra Mega Power Project in the near future. We are well on track to e nerge as the largest integrated private sector power and resource company."

The outlook is a positive start with indices set to take initial cues from the global markets. US indices closed higher with S&P 500 at a record high. The Dow and S&P 500 added around 0.3% while Nasdaq gained marginally.
