Tan Sri Muhyiddin Bin HJ Mohd Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, began his official visit to India today here at Mumbai with an interaction with a high level delegation from travel and tourism sector at the Malaysia Visa Application Centre, managed by VFS Global. In an endeavor to give a boost to India-Malaysia relations, and expand its services to other parts of the country, VFS Global, on the occasion, also announced its plans to set up 7 new Visa Application Centres (VACs) under the auspices of the Malaysian Government, adding to the existing 2 centres at Mumbai and Hyderabad.
Travelers and visa seekers will now be able to avail Malaysian visas from New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Kochi. These new centres shall be active during first quarter of FY 2011.
These new VACs aim to further enhance the image of Malaysia as a ‘round-the-year destination’ for all travel segments ex-India-tourist, business, MICE market, honeymooners, first-time travelers, bargain-hunters / shoppers and as a preferred stopover for onward travel. Growth of outbound travel from India to Malaysia has seen a steady increase over the last few years for leisure as well as business, prompting the need for specialized services. Travelers can look forward to an enhanced level of service with features including extended reach, comfortable office premises, extended submission duration, convenient modes of payments, faster turnaround time, passport delivery and many more value-added service initiatives, with VFS Global.
VFS Global began a pilot program with the Malaysian Government last year to open the Malaysia Visa Application Centres in the cities of Mumbai and Hyderabad. This was to set the ground for the plan to provide a network of services across India for the benefit of the travelers to Malaysia and also to enable the Malaysian Diplomatic Missions to cater to the volume of travel. Since their inception, over 10000 applications have been processed in total and is expected to go up as the second phase begins.
