IOC, India's leading oil company, said that it is planning to introduce a program to enhance the physical and mental wellness of juvenile inmates in detention centers through sports training such as chess, basketball, badminton, and carrom.
Led by its chairman SM Vaidya, the company has so far completed three phases of its highly successful social outreach program 'Parivartan-Prison to Pride,' which has trained thousands of inmates in sports disciplines such as chess, volleyball, basketball, carrom, and badminton.
Vaidya launched the fourth phase of the campaign across 17 new prisons in nine states during the 74th Republic Day celebrations, according to a company statement.
He also announced the launch of 'Nai Disha - Smile for Juvenile,' which will benefit over 2,500 young inmates at three Juvenile Correctional Centres in Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.
He also discussed plans to improve the ecosystem for the welfare of Indian prison inmates, with a special emphasis on women prisoners. Inmates are provided with sporting equipment and are empowered with focused coaching from IOC international-level athletes as part of the Parivartan outreach program.
