The Faridabad gas power station has a total installed capacity of 432 megawatts (MW), with two V94.2 gas turbines working in combined cycle mode.
A coordinated and broad-based strategy across all energy-intensive industries is required to meet de-carbonization ambitions. As part of this plan, hydrogen co-firing in gas turbines has the potential to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. NTPC, India's largest power generator, plans to play a significant role in energy transformation and meeting COP26 obligations.
As part of this project, NTPC is investigating several novel hydrogen-generating technologies as well as hydrogen utilisation in order to assure future readiness, create the necessary competencies and technical experience, and integrate with the national decarbonization and hydrogen mission aims.
Both firms will work together under this MoU to study the potential of using hydrogen co-firing in the Faridabad gas power plant. Based on the feasibility studies, companies may undertake a pilot project for 5% (by volume) hydrogen co-firing to demonstrate the capabilities, and the hydrogen necessary for the project will be arranged by NTPC.
