Adani Green Energy Surpasses 10,000MW Milestone in India's Renewable Sector

3 Apr 2024 , 01:48 PM

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) achieved a monumental feat in India’s renewable energy sector, surpassing 10,000 megawatts (MW) of operational portfolio, a milestone unprecedented in the country.

AGEL’s operational portfolio, now totalling 10,934 MW, is poised to power over 5.8 million homes and mitigate approximately 21 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, in alignment with India’s target of achieving 450 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Gautam Adani, Founder and Chairman of the Adani Group, expresses pride in AGEL’s achievement, dubbing it India’s first ‘das hazari’ (ten thousand) in the renewables space. He highlights the company’s rapid growth, transitioning from concept to reality, reaching 10,000 MW in installed capacity within a decade.

AGEL’s operational portfolio consists of 7,393 MW of solar, 1,401 MW of wind, and 2,140 MW of wind-solar hybrid capacity, with plans to construct the world’s largest renewable energy plant in Khavda, Gujarat, with a capacity of 30,000 MW.

AGEL is committed to sustainability across its operations, with its operational portfolio certified ‘single-use plastic free,’ ‘zero waste-to-landfill,’ and ‘water positive for plants with more than 200 MW capacity,’ showcasing its dedication to environmental and social responsibility.

The forthcoming renewable energy project in Khavda, spanning 538 square kilometres, is poised to become the world’s largest, underscoring AGEL’s commitment to advancing India’s renewable energy landscape and global environmental sustainability initiatives.
