To satisfy demand worldwide, Japanese apparel company Uniqlo intends to increase production and sourcing in India. Currently, 15.5% of the company’s items for Indian retailers are sourced domestically.
According to Kenji Inoue, the COO and CFO of Uniqlo India, “for our India stores, we are sourcing about 15.5% of our requirements locally but the share is higher for exports and the strategy is to keep sourcing more,” In an interview with ToI.
Indian manufacturers are already supplying Uniqlo’s international outlets with items like T-shirts and heattech apparel. According to Inoue, India is a crucial market for the brand because of the country’s expanding middle class and their need for high-quality goods.
The market with the greatest potential for growth is thought to be India. Making a strong branding impression here is crucial. We have been in India for three years, and there is plenty of space for expansion if we take out the years when COVID-19 was a problem,” Inoue said.
After initially concentrating on North India, Uniqlo is now growing in places like Mumbai. However, the business prioritises quality over quick growth. “We’re not in a rush to enter new cities. Quality and product mix are given more attention,” stated
