Google Pay enables UPI payments through RuPay credit card

24 May 2023 , 02:31 AM

Google has collaborated with the National Payments Corporation of India (NCPI) to make RuPay credit card-based UPI payments available on Google Pay. Users can now use Google Pay to add RuPay credit cards and make payments to both online and offline merchants.

Google Pay is currently compatible with RuPay credit cards issued by Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank, Canara Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Indian Bank, HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank, and Union Bank of India, with more banks to be added in the coming days.

For the uninitiated, Google Pay, a UPI-based payment app, like most payment apps, only accepts debit card payments.

Users can now add their RuPay credit card and make payments to merchants across the country with this update. There is currently no way to add Visa and Mastercard credit cards to Google Pay or any other UPI payment app in India.
