Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) announces joint venture with Safran Helicopter Engines named ‘Safhal Helicopter Engines Pvt Ltd.’ The joint venture aims to design, develop, certify, produce, sell, and support helicopter engines, with a focus on Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH) and Deck Based Multi-Role Helicopter (DBMRH).
HAL and Safran recently partnered for industrial cooperation in manufacturing ring forgings for commercial aircraft engines, powering Airbus A320 Neo and Boeing 737 Max airliners.
The collaboration highlights strategic Indo-French cooperation, emphasizing the joint development and manufacture of aircraft engines. Shakti engine, co-developed by HAL and Safran in Bengaluru, powers indigenous helicopters like Dhruv (ALH), Rudra, Prachanda (LCH), and LUH, catering to challenging altitudes.
Airbus partners with HAL to support the latter’s entry into commercial aircraft servicing, focusing on the A320 family, aiming to strengthen India’s aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) industry. Airbus provides A320 family tool package and consulting services to HAL for MRO setup, offering access to AirbusWorld digital platform for support and technical solutions.
