Rupee loses 4 paise to 82.64 / $

14 Dec 2022 , 12:22 PM

Early Wednesday, the rupee lost 4 paise to trade at 82.64 against the US dollar. Foreign dollar strength and investors' fear of taking risks before the US Federal Reserve's interest rate announcement damaged the local currency. The rupee fluctuated within a narrow band of 82.60 and 82.65 throughout the first transactions. The rupee lost 9 paise to the US dollar and ended the previous trading day on Tuesday at 82.60.

While everything was going on, the dollar index, which measures the dollar's strength against a basket of six different currencies, increased by 0.11 % to 104.09. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures saw a 0.33 % decline to USD 80.41 per barrel.
The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 238.75 points, or 0.38 %, at 62,772.05. This was the highest price it had reached in the domestic equity market. To 18,667.40, the NSE Nifty index increased by 59.40 points or 0.32 %. According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) changed from net sellers to buyers on Tuesday by purchasing shares worth Rs 619.92 crore on the capital markets.
