Container Corporation of India Ltd, a railway PSU, has entered into a deal with Indraprastha Gas Ltd to explore the possibilities of establishing LNG or LCNG infrastructure at its terminals in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
CONCOR and IGL have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to tap the potential of establishing LNG/LCNG infrastructure within CONCOR terminal premises. Initially, both LNG and LCNG facilities will be installed at CONCOR’s Dadri (Gautam Budh Nagar) terminal, according to the announcement.
CONCOR and IGL have agreed to investigate the potential of future LNG delivery by railway rakes from LNG installations near sea ports like Dahej in Gujarat to preferred destinations within India.
The MoU represents both CONCOR and IGL’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting a cleaner, greener future for the transport industry. When compared to typical diesel trucks, LNG trucks generate much lower amounts of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment and conforming with global sustainability goals.
As part of the agreement, both parties will explore the feasibility of utilising LNG-fired engines in place of current diesel-fired engines at CONCOR facilities.
