The only telecom companies that added wireless subscribers in July 2023 were Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) revealed the information in its most recent monthly performance indicator report. According to the data, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) continue to lose wireless consumers. Let’s examine the information in more detail.
While Airtel added 1.51 million customers, Reliance Jio added 3.90 million wireless subscribers. 1.40 million and 1.32 million wireless subscribers were lost for BSNL and Vi, respectively. However, this information is not the most important one. The number of active subscribers that the telecoms gained or lost is the most crucial statistic.
As the number of active wireless customers increased from 414.49 million to 415.94 million in July 2023, Reliance Jio added 1.45 million new users during the month.
The number of Vodafone Idea’s active subscribers is dangerously close to falling below 200 million. This is not a positive sign since the carrier lost 0.43 million active wireless consumers throughout the month. The rate at which subscribers were abandoning the network has, however, somewhat decreased. The cheapest prepaid package in the market is still offered by Vi, but it doesn’t seem to be helping the telecom in the short run.
