Engineering and construction conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) said on Wednesday that its power division has received an order from the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited for up to Rs 2,500 crore.
The company did not disclose the contract values but claimed that according to its classification of contracts, the orders fit into the ‘significant’ category, which is worth between Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,500 crore.
According to the company’s regulatory filing, the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) order relates to the installation of wet flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) systems for its Thermal Power Plant at Sagardighi in the state of West Bengal.
This will be a state-owned power utility’s first FGD project for L&T.
According to the filing, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Government of India has mandated the installation of FGD systems in all current and future thermal power plants in order to reduce SO2 emissions.
L&T is prepared to implement FGD projects for thermal plants totaling more than 19 GW thanks to this order, actively supporting the government’s initiative to reduce SO2 emissions, it added.
An Indian global company with approximately USD 21 billion in annual revenue, Larsen & Toubro specialises in EPC Projects, high-tech manufacturing, and services.
