Indian benchmark indices may open with higher numbers today. Yesterday, markets closed with positive numbers. Sensex closed 173 points higher 66,119. Nifty 50 closed 52 points higher at 19,716.
On the global front, US markets closed with mixed numbers as investors’ sentiments were low. Dow Jones closed 68 points lower. Nasdaq closed with a gain of 29 points. S&P 500 closed in green.
Asian equities are also trading in mixed sentiments in Thursday’s early morning session. Chinese Shanghai Composite is trading 0.13% higher. Hong Kong’s Heng Seng is trading with a decline of 0.91%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 ended 1.74% lower. Taiwan index is trading 0.41% higher. South Korean Kospi index is trading flat.
Nifty Midcap 50 stocks closed 0.87% higher. Nifty bank index closed flat.
Larsen & Toubro, Coal India, ITC, Cipla, and LTIMindtree closed as the biggest gainers in the previous session. Titan, Grasim, Hero MotoCorp, SBI, and ICICI Bank emerged as the biggest laggards.
The rupee recovered after two days of severe losses on Wednesday, ending 6 paise higher at 83.22 vs. the US dollar on encouraging signs from domestic equity markets.
Oil prices increased in early Asian trade on Thursday after jumping to the highest settlement in 2023 the previous session, as a sharp decline in US crude stocks contributed to concerns about global supply constraints.
