Markets snap three-day losing streak; Nifty settles above 17,200; Tata Steel, Cipla, Reliance outperform

Stock market report with bull and bear

Equity benchmark indices snapped a three-day winning streak as benchmarks traded in a rangebound today with huge volatility. The major contributor to the index again today was Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Asian Paints and Bajaj Finserv.

The BSE Sensex advanced 187 points to close at 57,808.58 and the Nifty 50 index gained 52 points to settle at 17,267. BSE Midcap and smallcap indices fell 0.75-1.25 per cent.

Among sectoral front, metal, PSU Bank, auto and pharma were closed in the green, however, selling was witnessed in IT, realty and media stocks. The Bank Nifty ended the session at 38,028.45, with a maginal gain of 0.09 per cent.

ONGC, Power Grid, SBI Life and Tata Consumer were the top Nifty losers, while gainers included Tata Steel, Cipla, Reliance, Divis Lab and Bajaj Finserv.
