P&W is condemned by DGCA for the incident involving the IndiGo engine

15 Sep 2023 , 11:50 AM

Following occurrences involving IndiGo aircraft engine failure, the Indian aviation regulator DGCA has requested Pratt & Whitney (P&W) publish a service bulletin with a fleet management action plan within 60 days.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has urged P&W to act quickly in response to the Indigo incident and advised it to determine the most likely reason for HPT blade damage.

In July, a US-based company P&W reported that it had discovered an unusual problem in the powdered metal used to make some engine parts that could shorten their lifespan.

Around 1,002 PW1100G engines across the globe would be affected, according to P&W.

IndiGo previously stated that it is collaborating closely with the engine manufacturer to evaluate and minimize any effects on its fleet. The 11 engines of the airline were affected.

The major user of A320 aircraft, which are powered by P&W engines, is IndiGo. P&W engines are also used in the A320 neo fleet of grounded airline Go First.

P&W is already battling supply chain problems, and several of IndiGo’s planes are already grounded because of engine problems.

P&W engine problems have already led to the grounding of several of the aircraft operated by IndiGo and Go First.

Cash-strapped Go First, which ceased operations on May 3, cited P&W engine issues as the primary justification for pursuing a voluntary insolvency resolution process. The grounded airline and the engine manufacturer are still at odds.
