The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that Viacom18 has won the media rights to the Women's Indian Premier League (WIPL) for a five-year period.
The media company paid Rs951 crore for media rights, which equates to Rs7.09 crore per match. In addition to Viacom18, Disney Star and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) were involved.
This is subject to the execution of definitive documentation and the completion of formalities as required by BCCI, as well as the completion of other obligations specified in the ITT.
The bid deadline, which was originally set for January 12, has been pushed back to January 16.
The league will consist of at least 22 matches per season, with the number expected to increase to 33-34 matches in the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
After selling the WIPL media rights, the BCCI is now preparing to sell the five franchises that will comprise the league.
The BCCI, like the WIPL, has not set a base price for the sale of franchises. Many IPL team owners are competing for WIPL franchises.
