Air India to spend $400 million in upgrading its fleet

9 Dec 2022 , 11:51 AM

The Boeing 777 and 787 cabins of the Tata Group-owned airline Air India will receive a $400 million makeover, and the airline will also launch a premium economy service on medium- and long-haul flights.

In spite of fierce competition from West Asian and European carriers, the airline will increase market share thanks to the refurbishment plan and capacity expansion.

New seats and the best in-flight entertainment for all classes will be installed as part of the cabin interior makeover of 27 Boeing 787 and 13 Boeing 777 aircraft. On both fleets, the renovation will also provide a premium economy cabin. On the 777s, the first-class cabin will remain.

To help with the cabin interior design components of this refurbishing effort, Air India has enlisted the assistance of London-based product design firms JPA Design and Trendworks. In a statement, Air India noted that the collaboration “brings together two professionals in aviation and interiors who have created designs for significant brands like as Taj Hotels, The Orient Express, and Herman Miller International.”
