Akasa Air gets its first aircraft, a Boeing 737 Max

16 Jun 2022 , 02:44 PM

According to a statement, the new airline Akasa Air received the first 737 Max aircraft from Boeing on Thursday in Seattle, USA. Akasa Air sealed a deal with Boeing on November 26 last year to purchase 72 Max planes, three months after the Indian aviation regulator DGCA granted the planes the green light.

In August 2021, the airline, which is funded by ace businessman Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and aviation veterans Vinay Dube and Aditya Ghosh, acquired the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s no-objection certificate to begin commercial flight operations.

“With a strong commitment to democratizing the skies,” the airline stated in a statement, “the airlines’ total purchase of 72 aircraft comprises an initial delivery of 18 aircraft by March 2023, followed by delivery of the remaining 54 aircraft over the next four years.”
