About two months after the product’s original availability in China, Apple Inc. intends to begin producing the iPhone 14 in India.
The business has been collaborating with suppliers to increase production in India and reduce the customary six- to nine-month delay in the production of new iPhones.
Apple may be considering exporting the forthcoming iPhone 14 from India, though, as the US smartphone manufacturer aims to reduce geopolitical risks to the efficiency of its supply chain by establishing production facilities outside of China.
India’s capacity and shipment of iPhones still lag behind China’s in the medium term, but it is a significant step for Apple in creating a non-Chinese iPhone production facility.
The American company has been gradually increasing iPhone production in India. Currently, Foxconn (Hon Hai), Wistron, and Pegatron, three contract manufacturers, produce the company’s gadgets in India.
The three Apple partners are a part of the production-linked incentive program for mobile manufacturing that is run by the Indian government. To qualify for the incentives, they must produce goods worth at least Rs 8,000 crore apiece in the current year.
Apple has long produced the majority of its iPhones in China, but it has been looking for alternatives as a result of tensions between the Chinese and US governments, as well as other considerations including recent lockdowns to stop the virus from spreading.
