According to its CEO Jochen Zeitz, who talked to ET, Harley-Davidson may use these facilities to sell in other international markets. Last week, the American auto icon launched its most cheap bike to date in India to kick off its second stint in the country.
On his first trip to India since taking over as CEO of Harley-Davidson, Zeitz stated to ET that the company’s top aim right now is to boost domestic sales of the HD X440, the motorcycle Harley co-developed with Hero.
In 2020, Harley-Davidson stopped producing motorcycles in India. However, the business and Hero MotoCorp came to terms with continuing to sell each other’s imported goods in the nation. Priced at roughly Rs 2.3 lahks, the X440, the first product jointly produced by the two businesses aims to challenge Royal Enfield’s hegemony in the premium bike segment, where operating profit margins frequently exceed those for software exports.
The X440 for Harley will be produced by Hero MotoCorp for the Indian market.
In order to counter China’s commercial influence on the international stage, Washington and New Delhi are strengthening their interaction through a series of business and defense accords. Harley-Davidson has refocused on the Indian market at this moment.
