Hindustan Unilever Q4 PAT up 5.4% at Rs2,304cr as EBIT margin growth holds despite input cost pressures

Hindustan Unilever Ltd reported 10.73% growth in total revenues yoy for the Mar-22 quarter on consolidated basis at Rs13,767cr. On a sequential basis, revenues were higher for the quarter by 2.44%.

For the full year FY22, the revenues were higher by 11.1% at Rs52,704cr. In fact, this marked the first full year when Hindustan Unilever scaled past the Rs50,000cr mark in total sales revenues.

On a yoy basis, the Q4 revenue growth was visible across verticals. Beauty and personal care vertical saw 3.6% growth at Rs4,743cr while the Food and refreshment vertical saw yoy growth of 5.3% at Rs3,698cr.

However, the robust growth was visible in the home care vertical which saw sales revenues grow by 23.6% yoy at Rs4,743cr in Q4. The home care segment growth was led by liquids and fabric sensations where price hikes offset most of the input cost pressures.

The beauty products were impacted by the third wave of COVID impacting discretionary consumption to some extent. In the foods segment, jams, ketchup and soups saw the strongest double digit growth.

The consolidated net profit for Q4 was up 5.40% at Rs2,304cr while it was up on a sequential basis by 0.30%. The overall EBITDA margins were strong at 24.6% as the company used its influence and clout to defer some of the input cost hikes and also compensate some of its input cost hikes via price hikes.

In terms of verticals, the operating profits of the beauty and personal care segment was flat to marginally lower. However, the home care segment saw operating profits grow by 14.8% at Rs932cr while the operating profits of the food and refreshments grew sharply by 24% at Rs713cr.

Net margins stood at 16.74% in Mar-22 quarter compared to 17.58% in Mar-21. NPM was lower sequentially compared to 17.09% in Q3.
