Indian benchmark indices ended lower on May 28 after a volatile trading session, with the Nifty closing below the 22,900 mark. The Sensex fell by 220.05 points, or 0.29%, to close at 75,170.45, while the Nifty declined by 44.30 points, or 0.19%, to end at 22,888.20. The market breadth was negative with 1,079 shares advancing, 2,272 shares declining, and 83 shares remaining unchanged.
Top Nifty Losers and Gainers
The biggest losers on the Nifty included Adani Ports, Power Grid Corp, Coal India, Adani Enterprises, and BPCL. On the other hand, the top gainers were Divi’s Laboratories, SBI Life Insurance, HDFC Life, Grasim Industries, and Hero MotoCorp.
On the sectoral front, indices for Oil & Gas, Capital Goods, Telecom, PSU Bank, Power, and Realty fell by 1-2%. The BSE MidCap index declined by 0.5%, while the BSE SmallCap index shed 1%.
