Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) to collaborate on the procurement and sale of hydrogen between their respective refineries located in Mumbai.
Vijay S Agashe, Executive Director of HPCL Mumbai refinery, and Subramoni Iyer, Executive Director of BPCL Mumbai Refinery, inked the MoU.
The availability of hydrogen is crucial in the treatment of diesel and petrol, as it allows for the production of low-emission fuels that meet the stringent Euro-VI or Bharat Stage VI standards. Additionally, hydrogen is vital for ensuring that refinery operations are safe and dependable.
According to a statement from the company, “a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been entered into between the Mumbai refineries of HPCL and BPCL, which will facilitate a synergistic arrangement for the purchase and sale of hydrogen.”
The unique strategic partnership established between the two oil marketing companies aims to foster mutual support during emergencies and promote environmental responsibility by reducing the wasteful flaring of valuable hydrogen, said the company.
The initiative seeks to promote cooperation and collaboration between the refineries in the area of hydrogen exchange to ensure continuous refinery operations and the uninterrupted availability of products.
