Jio-BP, a fuel retail joint venture between Reliance Industries and British oil major BP, will soon begin selling compressed biogas (CBG) and bio-CNG (B-CNG), both of which can be used in CNG-powered vehicles in place of compressed natural gas.
According to sources, the company will initially sell CBG and B-CNG through its outlets in western India before expanding to other locations.
According to the company, Jio-bp will convert an increasing number of customers to B-CNG in accordance with its sustainability policies.
The company announced that they are in the final phases of consolidating its supply chain network to ensure supply stability. They intend to establish fixed prices based on long-term agreements with all CBG suppliers, factoring in the advantages for all parties involved in the value chain.
Compressed biogas is a green fuel made from waste or biomass. When this mixture is purified and processed further, it is known as bio-compressed natural gas or bio-CNG. Both have a calorific value comparable to CNG and can be used in automotive, industrial, and commercial applications.
India currently operates nearly 30 CBG plants. Industry participants anticipate that the sector will attract more than $2 billion in investment over the next 5-7 years.
