Markets end with marginal gains; Nifty above 17,000

Indian equity markets ended the day on a slightly higher note. Nifty 50 closed higher by 37 points. Sensex closed 160 points higher.

BPCL was the top NSE gainer. Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paints, Nestle India, and Titan joined the rally. Hindalco, Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank, JSW Steel, and HDFC Life were the top laggards.

Metal stocks ended under the highest pressure. IT stocks came under selling pressure. Media stocks registered gains. All other sectoral indices ended marginally higher.

Reliance, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Adani Enterprises were the most active stocks in terms of trading value. Tata Steel, SBI, ONGC, BPCL, and Hindalco emerged as most active stocks in terms of trading volume.

13 stocks touched new 52-week high today at NSE. 276 stocks touched new 52-week low.
