Otis India announced the launch of it’s easy to install, single phase battery operated, GeN2 SWITCH elevator system in India.
This innovative system is a breakthrough in the elevator industry to operate GeN2 technology elevators with single phase 230 volts supply.
How this system works?
Under normal running mode, single phase mains power supply charges a pack of batteries which in turn supplies power to the elevator motor operation. So in the event of a power failure, the battery pack continues to operate the elevator that too up to a 100 trips.
Thus the GeN2 SWITCH™ would prove to be a boon in parts of the country which suffer from excess power outages.
Clearly, introducing this technology will provide the following customer benefits:
Costs savings using 230 volts Single phase power supply rather than 400 volts 3 phase.
Normal elevator use even in case of power cuts (up to 100 trips)
Regenerated energy captured into batteries that makes system more reliable in power cut situations.
Improved safety for installation and maintenance due to low voltage application.
Also, convenient as the requirement is only single phase power supply
Compatible with alternative energy sources like solar panels that makes it truly sustainable.
Because the system is based on GeN2 Technology, all the other technological aspects of GeN2 system come available in SWITCH:
OTIS’ patented flat polyurethane-coated steel belts as opposed to traditional steel ropes. These belts are 20% lighter and last three times longer. The flexible belts bend around smaller diameter sheaves, thereby making it possible to use a more compact gearless machine. GeN2 SWITCH™ is equipped with the Pulse system which electronically monitors the status of the belts 24 hours X 365 days a year. This replaces conventional wire rope inspections that rely on periodic visual examinations. The OTIS Pulse system automatically detects any anomaly, enhancing the reliability of the elevator and increasing safety. The ReGen drive generates energy and recharges the battery pack in the favourable elevator car movement. A specific version of the Green Power PM gearless machine prepared to work at 28 AC is used.
The SWITCH is best-suited for low rise buildings up to 21 metres height. The capacity of this auto-door elevator is a maximum 8 passengers and it comes with a variable speed up to 1mps.
Sebi Joseph, Managing director, OTIS India said, “Otis is excited to introduce the revolutionary Gen2 SWITCH in India that offers customers an ideal elevator solution in areas that face frequent power cuts. A unique proposition of the SWITCH is that it can also be installed in existing buildings easily using only single phase power supply. The SWITCH incorporates all the exciting and environment friendly features of the GeN2 range whilst providing superior ride comfort for passengers, a quieter performance, energy savings and unprecedented reliability.”
