TMC proposes, Parliament disposes

No confidence motion rejected by the parliament as the motion fails to receive support from 50 MPs.

No confidence motion was rejected in the Lok Sabhaas the motion failed to receive support in the Parliament. Speaker Meira Kumar asked members supporting the motion to stand up; none but TMC members stood up. The Lower House was adjourned amidstsloganeering and shouting from MPs as Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj tried to initiate a debate and vote on the FDI in retail issue.

New highs pass by; flat start

The outlook is a flat open. Global indices are up. The minutes from the Federal Reserve's July meeting indicate that the Fed is in no hurry to raise interest rates. The Dow added 0.35% while S&P was up 0.25%. Nasdaq ended marginally lower. Asian indices are mixed with Nikkei up almost a percent while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index is lower. South Korea's Kospi index and China's Shanghai index are also in the red.
